Penelope Cruz Sanchez
Penelope Cruz Sanchez was the daughter
of Eduardo Cruz (a retailer) and Encarna Sanchez (a hairdresser). When she was
a little girl and a devoted performer. She would even re-enact commercials on
television for the enjoyment of her parents. However, she decided to dedicate
her time to dancing. After nine years of classical ballet training at Spain's
National Conservatory she was able to further her education under the guidance
of a number of famous dancers. Her true calling was discovered at the age of 15
when she beat more than 300 other girls in an audition at a talent agency. The
contract she was offered secured her roles on Spanish television shows , as
well as music videos. This opened up the way to a promising career in the world
of film. Cruz was first seen in a movie in The Greek Labyrinth (1993) (The
Greek Labyrinth) She then made a brief appearance in the Timothy Dalton
thriller Framed (1992). The Oscar-winning Belle Epoque (1992) was her third
film. In the film, she played one of four sisters who were trying to win the
love of a handsome deserter from the Army. The film also garnered many Goyas,
the Spanish equivalent of the Academy Awards. Cruz was a well-known Spanish
actor with her average of three to four films per year that she added to her resume.
Live Flesh (1997) (Live Flesh) offered her the chance to work with renowned
Spanish director Pedro Almodovar (who would later be her ticket to
international fame), and the same year she was the lead actress in the
thriller/drama/mystery/sci-fi film Open Your Eyes (1997), a huge hit in Spain
that earned eight Goyas (though none for Cruz). Her luck changed completely in
1998, when the film-industry comedy La Nina De Tus Ojos (1998) brought her a
award for the Best Actress Goya. Cruz was able to travel to English-language
films, however All About My Mother (1999) was her first big international hit.
She played a non-challenging but well-meaning nun. The film was flooded with
accolades and awards Cruz quickly found herself being sought after on both sides
of the Atlantic. The next major film she worked on was Woman on Top (2000) the
American comedy about a cook who is enchanting in her cooking skills and a
serious case of motion sickness. While she was in the US,
