Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio
Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artistic gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She received an Olympic gold medal for team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas who was on her team also won gold. Raisman also won silver in the individual all around and floor exercises. Raisman also received silver medals for the individual all-around , as well as in floor exercise. She is also two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam. She is also an all-time champion of the national all-around competitions at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011, 2012 and the year 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), a former high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman. There are three sisters younger than her: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has stated, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not just represent the U.S.A, but also the Jewish community throughout the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when was 18 months old. She attributes her initial love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics that she watched on VHS.She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through the level 8 stage, when she was transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School in 2012. She completed her senior year online and was practicing for the Olympics.
