Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1936 - August 17, 2015) was an American actress, ballet dancer and choreographer. She is best remembered for her character in Batman's television series from the 1960s Batman and Marta she was an Orion slave girl sporting green skin in Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer of female super heroes" on the television. Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. In 1951, her family relocated to the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas, where she went to W. H. Adamson High School and later Sunset High School, from where she failed to be able to graduate due to the absence of "a single PE credit". Craig was a part of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the most junior ballerina in the company after being discovered by Alexandra Danilova who is a instructor and dancer. As she performed as Batgirl in the film, her training proved extremely beneficial. In 1957, she resigned from the ballet company because of disputes regarding casting changes. Then, she moved to Los Angeles with the hope of continuing her dancing career. However, she did find herself in film roles. The first time she was seen was in an TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") along with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later was appointed the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. In the years following her appearances on The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959), and Gidget (all 1958) she also appeared as Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig appeared with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as in Seven Women from Hell (1961) as a guest with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was guest on the Western Laramie show "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley in the roles of was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (64). She also starred in the science-fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) as well as in In Like Flint (1967) as a Russian dancer in a ballet with James Coburn.
