ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played many games as a child but only began to play soccer when she was 14. Morgan was a member of the Cypress Elite club team and won the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. She also came in third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to refine her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was selected as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Additionally, she was a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from the beginning of her season. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament in four years and also to two times to the second round. Morgan was among four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This resulted in her being the first Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed as the top player on the list. Morgan finished her degree in 2010 with the third-highest number of goals and points at Berkeley. Morgan managed to have soccer careers at both the level of the national and college during her education. During her first year on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from training with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. In Mexico, Morgan scored her first international soccer goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan played in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team took home an Olympic gold medal. She also scored her first international goal during the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship in Mexico. One of these was a victory goal against Italy that secured the U.S. team a final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and played a key role in helping it win against France. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and led them to victory against Japan.
